Our arms fall easily and naturally into several certain positions, Holding our hands down in front of our torso, at our sides, folding our arms, holding one arm in a half crossed arm hold or folding both arms together at chest level. They are comfortable pondering kind of positions, stances that we ease into when we are a little quiet and settled in ourselves, maybe listening to some one or something. Yes, one can fold one’s arms in anger but I’m talkingabout the comfortable, conforting king of folding. These positions are called Clunk Positions (Sam Masich articulated this phenomenon). I recently attended Sam’s 108 Intensive 8 day workshop (WOW it was good!) and observed people settling into this Cluck position as they listened to and watched Sam demonstrate. A slight opening change in a clunk position can be a spark to a powerful tai chi position.
